At St. Paul’s the manpower shortage caused problems such as the lack of bellringers. The solution was found by arranging the bell pulls so that all six could be operated by just one person. The bells are even now pulled by a set of numbered levers closely set together with sheets showing the order in which they need to be pulled. The bells were produced by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry in London. The Foundry also produced Big Ben, the Liberty Bell and notable others.
